Giuseppe Verdi | This apartment is situated on the second floor of the grand Villa Margherita where the famous Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi stayed and composed La Traviata. It dates back to the 1750s and enjoys a prime central lake position along the western shore of Lake Como!
Beach & boat mooring | The well-maintained grounds of the villa include a lakefront area with a resident beach, boat mooring facility, children’s play area and a parking facility. From the parking, an arched stone tunnel leads safely under the lake road out into the principal lake view grounds in a mature and serene landscaped setting.
Elegant & inviting | The spacious two bedroom property is situated on the second floor of the villa (lift available) and is furnished in a distinctive, elegant and inviting style. The villa apartment is composed of a living room, fully equipped kitchen diner, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a private lake terrace with a view of the grounds and of Lake Como.
Living room | The well-proportioned lake view living room features three comfortable sofas and a TV and offers a wonderful view of the Bellagio peninsular.
Kitchen | A modern fully fitted kitchen with dining area provides all the desired appliances for a self-catering holiday and also enjoys a wonderful view of the lake and Bellagio.
Two bedrooms | The principal lake view master bedroom is beautifully furnished with antique pieces and features floor to ceiling lake view windows. The second bedroom is furnished with two single beds. The property also features 2 bathrooms: the first with a bathtub and the second with a shower.
Private terrace | From the master bedroom french doors open out onto a fabulous sunny lake view terrace, overlooking the villa’s romantic gardens and the breathtaking Lake Como with picturesque views towards Bellagio and Varenna.
Garden | The splendid resident landscaped gardens of the villa are available to guests to walk and relax between the mature specimen trees and spectacular flower displays against the backdrop of Lake Como.
Verdi, Ponchielli, Rubinstein & Puccini | Villa Margherita has a rich history and is one of the most famous villas on Lake Como. It was built in 1853, commissioned by Giulio Ricordi, from the famous Italian music publishing house and family firm Casa Ricordi. Giuseppe Verdi was often a guest and composed part of La Traviata during his stays but also other famous composers stayed and worked in the villa such as Amilcare Ponchielli, Anton Rubinstein and probably also Giacomo Puccini.
Queens, tsars & chancellors | Queen Victoria of England, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, Kaiser Wilhelm II, Prince Umberto of Savoy and German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer also stayed in the villa over the years.
Concerts | In the large room overlooking the garden a large number of small concerts were attended by distinguished guests.
Amenities by foot | From the villa local restaurants can be reached along the road by foot or by car. In a few minutes the famous Villa Carlotta, Tremezzo cafes, bars, restaurants and lakeside park, the Cadenabbia car and passenger ferry, the famous Villa Balbianello and the picturesque resort town of Menaggio with boutique shops, Lido beach and swimming pools and charming piazzas can be reached.
Griante |The pretty hillside heart of Griante is also worth a visit and many walks can be enjoyed from here as well as the San Martino church with incredible lake views.
Como | In a 40-minute drive you can reach Como, a pleasant city with many good restaurants, all kinds of shops, the beautiful Duomo and other sights.
Milan | In Como you can also take the train to Milan where you can admire The Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci (don’t forget to book a ticket well in advance!), The Duomo and the Castello Sforzescho. Milan is also a city of fashion and design with the shops and ateliers of the famous Italian fashion houses in the Quadrilatero d’Oro and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
